About the Opportunity

A well-established lower middle-market private equity firm is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its finance team. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting both management company accounting and fund-level operations.

The ideal candidate is a motivated accounting professional looking to build a long-term career within private equity while working alongside senior leadership in a collaborative, high-performing environment.

Why This Opportunity?

This is more than a traditional accounting position. You'll become a key member of a lean finance team with broad exposure across the business.

  • Work directly with the CFO and gain valuable mentorship and insight into firm-level financial decision-making.
  • Take ownership of meaningful accounting responsibilities from day one.
  • Gain exposure to management company accounting, private equity funds, investor reporting, tax, audit, and portfolio company financial reporting.
  • Enjoy a clear path for career advancement, including long-term growth into a Controller position.
  • Build specialized private equity experience that is highly valued throughout the investment industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the general ledger and oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process for the management company.
  • Prepare journal entries and perform account reconciliations while investigating and resolving variances.
  • Process accounts payable and maintain vendor relationships.
  • Assist with fund accounting, including capital calls, distributions, capital account maintenance, and quarterly investor reporting.
  • Support the preparation of management company and fund tax returns.
  • Coordinate audit requests and assist with investor reporting requirements.
  • Monitor quarterly financial performance of portfolio companies.
  • Help improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting efficiencies.
  • Participate in special projects as the finance function continues to grow.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Three or more years of accounting experience, or at least two years in public accounting with audit, tax, or assurance experience.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience working with general ledger/accounting software.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of professionalism and discretion when handling confidential financial information.
  • Eagerness to learn and take on increasing responsibility.

Preferred

  • Public accounting background.
  • CPA designation or active progress toward CPA licensure.
  • Experience with, or a strong interest in, private equity or fund accounting (training provided).

What Success Looks Like

  • Financial statements and supporting schedules that are accurate, organized, and audit-ready.
  • Investor reporting completed accurately and on time.
  • Strong ownership of assigned responsibilities with proactive follow-up.
  • Timely communication of issues and recommendations for improvement.
  • A collaborative attitude and continuous desire to learn and grow.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary
  • Discretionary annual performance bonus
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Paid Time Off and company-paid holidays
  • CPA licensure and Continuing Professional Education (CPE) support
  • Cell phone reimbursement
  • Gym membership reimbursement

This is an outstanding opportunity for an accounting professional looking to expand their experience in private equity while working closely with executive leadership in a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
