Job Description

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The Specialist, EHS will have an active role in implementing, maintaining, and improving environmental, health, and safety programs across the organization. The Specialist, EHS will work independently on assignments, conduct safety audits, deliver training, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop and implement safety policies aligned with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and company standards
  • Conduct safety inspections and identify workplace hazards
  • Lead incident investigations and recommend preventive actions
  • Deliver safety training and maintain training records
  • Analyze injury and safety data to identify trends and improvement areas
  • Support industrial hygiene efforts such as exposure monitoring
  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning and drills
  • Assist in PPE evaluation and ergonomic assessments

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position

  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS, occupational safety, environmental science, or related field

Minimum experience required of the position

  • 2–4 years of relevant EHS experience in manufacturing, utilities, oil and gas, or related sectors

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities preferred of the position

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including EPA, OSHA, Louisiana DEQ (LDEQ), and Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) requirements.
  • Assist with implementation and maintenance of the company's Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Conduct environmental compliance inspections and audits of company facilities.
  • Track environmental permits, renewals, and reporting deadlines.
  • Maintain environmental records required by regulatory agencies.
  • Support environmental permitting associated with construction and maintenance activities.
  • Coordination of company's air emission obligations including Greenhouse Gas (GHG) requirements, including collection, validation, and submission of emissions data in accordance with applicable EPA regulations.
  • Support field activities including, but not limited to hazardous waste, wastewater/soil, and air emissions. A particular emphasis is placed on storm water pollution prevention, waste remediation activities associated with natural gas utility operations.
  • Familiarity with incident investigation and implementation of corrective actions
  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene practices related to noise, air quality, and other workplace hazards
  • Ability to perform trend analysis using mathematical and statistical methods
  • Proficient in using Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and conflict resolution abilities

Preferred certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position

  •  ASP (Associate Safety Professional), CSP (Certified Safety Professional), GSP (Graduate Safety Professional), or equivalent certification.
  • CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager)
  • REM (Registered Environmental Manager)
  • CEP (Certified Environmental Professional)
  • CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist)

Physical Requirements

  • Able to operate a motor vehicle, including the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted.
  • Able to perform on-site inspections.
  • Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
  • Able to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.
  • Able to exert up to 50 lb of force occasionally and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, or move objects.

  • Able to respond to emergency calls and/or callouts and occasionally return to work while off duty.
  • Able to wear and operate personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, protective footwear, and earplugs daily.
  • Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions.
  • May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts.

Notice: As a safety sensitive position, compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) drug and alcohol regulations is required, including but not limited to pre-employment drug testing and background screening.
